About Me

1000 Grandmothers Prayer Initiative is a collective of the spirit of the grandma, granny's, nana's, big mama,madear, and all the many and varied affectionate terms for the unconditional and indescribable love of a grandmother. In the spirit of Holly Near's lyrics, "1000 Grandmothers", we shall advocate for a more peaceful society for children in particular, and the restoration of the family God calls us to be, in general. This blog is being established in response to the many, many, many girls(and boys) who are placed in foster care system, some in homes, others in group homes or juvenile hall. The numbers are too great to be ignored. So, grandmothers let's get going! Let's pray for the change we want to see, by being the change God has called us all to be! 1000 Grandmothers is a social justice response to Luke 4:17-18, and in partial fulfillment of an graduate course in Advocacy with Bakke Graduate School of Theology--Global Urban Leadership.

Pray for the Children in group homes!

Today, Wednesday October 20, 2010, our prayer focus is on G-girl #2; she is a 17 year old African American girl living in a group home; she recently gave her life to Christ and was baptized by water;  She desires for her mom to visit, and wants to see her brother and sister; she is subject to mood swings and depression.  She is soft spoken and does well in school.  But she does not cope or handle conflict and aggression from other girls.

Advocate in Prayer for G-girl #2 that her family will be restored and she will once again enjoy the fellowship and security of a family that is rooted in the love and mercy of God.  Pray for her to discover her voice in standing up for her rights.

Scripture focus:  Malachi:4:6--Turn the  hearts of the fathers(mothers) to the children; and when the hearts of the fathers are turned, may the hearts of the children be turned to their fathers(mothers).  Let their be a turning, a spirit of repentance upon the earth, for the sake of the children!
Peace,

Wednesday, October 13, 2010, Prayer Advocacy

Good day grandmothers!  Today our prayer advocacy focuses on one granddaughter:  We will call her G-girl; 18 year old African American female; being faced with aging out of group home care; faces possibility of homelessness within months of release from group home; system unable to continue care because of age.  She has no living relatives that she can connect to; transitional housing is a weak possibility due to long waiting line and state budget deficit;

Stand in the gap today for G-girl by speaking God's words of help and hope, for her as a granddaughter!
Pray this biblical passage over her and over your own grandchildren, too.
Prayer language:  Psalm 17: 1-2; 6-9

"Hear a just cause, O LORD, Attend to my cry; Give ear to my prayer which is not from deceitful lips.  Let my vindication come from Your presence; Let Your eyes look on the things that are upright.

I have called upon You, for You will hear me O God; Incline your ear to me , and hear my speech; Show YOur marvelous lovingkindness by Your right hand, O You who save those who trust in You From those who rise up against them.  Keep me as the apple of Your eye; Hide me under the shadow of Your wings from the wicked who oppress me, from my deadly enemies who surround me." (New Spirit Filled Life Bible)

And it is so for G-girl and grandchildren in need of a touch from the Father
